Course Description

Real estate is a services-based industry. The people who provide these services are the drivers of the core business and thus among the most valuable assets for a real estate services enterprise. As such, decisions and policies around human resources management are a key component of business operations. This course provides an overview of various human resources management topics, introducing and evaluating different theories and translating them into practical application.

At the forefront of a successful real estate services enterprise are effective leaders and managers. Leadership and organizational structures are the two primary topics discussed in the first lesson of this course. In particular, effective communication and the establishment of rules and procedures are explored.

The second lesson provides an overview of the tasks associated with managing employees, beginning with the recruitment process, then discussing employee selection, workforce maintenance, the performance appraisal process, and compensation systems. The lesson provides a high-level overview of various theories and techniques, allowing the student to evaluate different approaches and select those that are best for their particular circumstances.
